Dear Miss Barrett 
My 13-year-old daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed two performances of “Dear Miss Barrett.” It is intelligent, tender, and, at times, uproariously funny! Beyond merely a romantic comedy, it conveys the truest nature of love. The music brilliantly gives life to the nineteenth-century Browning’s love story and, alternately, that of the contemporary couple whose relationship challenges move the story along. “Dear Miss Barrett” is a lovely tapestry, woven of music, poetry, dialogue, humor, and authentic love. We are still singing several of the marvelous songs weeks later!

Dear Miss Barret was a pleasure to watch, with deep emotional tones and a fantastic musical score. It was entertaining and enjoyable, funny and heartfelt. I hope to see it again with a bigger budget behind the music and extras. Broadway perhaps?

Transported the audience to Pisa, and even brought tears to some eyes. The music was moving and Crystal Kurek tremendous as the great poetess! Loved how Kurek brought the poems to life through the form of a musical.

I was thrilled and exhilarated by this powerfully acted and beautifully scored deep dive into the story of forbidden love between two 19th century poets woven together with a modern-day tale of love inspired by the passion expressed in their poetry. The music and vocal talent alone will leave you wanting more! The dances were riveting and expertly executed. What a thoroughly enjoyable performance. Love conquers all!

What a courageous original work that perfectly marries the contemporary with the victorian! The longing for love accompanied by the uncertainty while finding it are timeless themes that speak to all audiences, while the memorable tunes ensure you carry this show with you long after it ends.

As a lifelong lover of EBB’s poetry and a fan of Michael Kurek’s orchestral works, I suppose I should not have been surprised by how much I adored every minute of this historical romantic drama/comedy. But I was bowled over by the entire experience. The music was perfectly tuned to the Victorian period, the brilliant script rang true to the history, and the actors — particularly the two leads — fit their roles beautifully. For some reason, the entire production called to mind the musical Jane Eyre by Paul Gordon and John Caird, with which I think Mr. Kurek’s work compares favorably.

Absolutely WONDERFUL! The costumes, acting, staging, music ALL absolutely WONDERFUL! All were displayed throughout the entire production. Michael is a MASTER composer. Beautiful melodious lines with seamless modulations throughout. Kelsie Fulton did an outstanding job attacking such a difficult piano score and played it “musically.” I enjoyed this show not only through the great performance by the actors but also was highly entertained by Michael’s gift of musical composition.

If the video of this musical is available, get your hands on a copy. And block out the time to watch it. It is a grand spectacle. These performers give us everything they have every second they are on stage. And they have a lot to give. And a lot to work with. The story line, the script, the songs–all of it requires, if not demands, the best from each performer. I was impressed scene after scene, song after song with the talent of the cast. Their acting. Their singing. And the choreography. There’s not a weak moment in the show. And behind Dear Miss Barrett lies Crystal Kurek who suggested to her husband, Michael, that the show be about the Brownings. I fancy he responded, “Easy for you to say!” I can only imagine the amount of research and creativity that went into the writing of such a huge undertaking, music and all. But then there it is. There it is for all of us to watch in all its glory. Stupefacente!
